Here's my memories from 1993:

I went out to the track the week before Labor Day weekend, and by then the water had receded. The water had been so high that the main building had one foot of water in it at one time -- it got that high. The fence that runs along the walkway from the ticket booth to the grandstands had been clogged with debris and bent completely over. One of the shacks like the one they sell beer from on each end of the building had floated down and was lodged against the front wall fence. The entire walkway between the front stretch fence and grandstands was filled with mud. Somewhere I have pictures of all this, will try to find them sometime.

Something many are forgetting is the track was racing on asphalt then -- the most Southall (who had left once, and then returned to operate it for 1994) had to do was scrape off the dirt and do a little patching. Horror stories abounded about how the back stretch wall had collapsed (didn't), among others, but when 1994 rolled around the gates opened again.

The car I raced in 1994 actually went through the flood of 1993 at Muncie Auto Salvage -- couldn't get it out before the flood. Talk about a major mess to clean out!

SO FAR it doesn't appear that there will be as much damage as in the past, but it's far from over. We can hope for the best.

WOW! It only took four days for the rumor of the track being for sale to hit the internet. I am a little disappointed. I thought that the naysayers would have spoken up before now.

We all know that Boyer isn't buying Lakeside because he is buying I-70.

Let's wait a couple of weeks before we all go off the deep end. I am sure that Lakeside will be racing again. Let's hope that it is still this summer.

Is it true the rive has crested and the "worst" may be over, If it only gets this deep, that is no where near as bad as 93 so that is a poistive thing and it does not appear to have much "current" so maybe it will not dig or under mine any thing.

I will bet, if it where to receed today, if we all got togther and pitched in, we could get it ready in a week or two,

We may need to chase down the porta potties and trash barrels

Rumors are usually that just rumors. If you want to know what Marc is thinking, call him and ask him. I also heard that Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr and Kenny Schrader also put in an offer on the track. They currently own a track together and thought one near that Kansas Speedway would be nice to have.

Thanks
Jr.
