What can we say about the Show that was put on Saturday Night at Heartland Park Topeka, Other than WOW!!!!
To start the night’s events we introduced the new race Director “Terry Wantland” to everyone at the drivers meeting. Terry told everyone at the drivers meeting that a “few changes were going to be made” and that “he did not need to tell the drivers how to drive because they all had done this before” and “to just give each other some room out there”. When he ended the drivers meeting he said “Now let’s all go out there and give the fans what they paid for and that is ONE HELL OF A SHOW”. I think they all listened to him.
I personally think it was the “BEST” show that has been seen at the track all year. Anyone that missed it, all I can say is you missed a good one. Ninety-nine cars in the pits and Great side-by-side racing in all the classes, and lets not forget the fans, lots of fans in the stands. Its really cool to be pit side and see that many people in the stands it just make all of us that work at HPT feel special when that may people show up to watch the show that the Drivers and HPT have to offer.
We also had a Guest in the Flag stand; “Tony Morgan” who runs the flag stand at Humboldt Speedway was coming to HPT just to watch the races Saturday night but got the chance to help Bob Bardsley HPT’s head flagman Saturday night. Tony was just going to assist Bob Saturday night, but Bob gave him the flags for the Factory Stock and Modified a mains. When I talked to Tony after the races, he told me “He had a blast and wanted to say “Thank You” again to Bob for allowing him to help out and wanted to say “Thanks to Heartland Park for letting him do what he loves to do and that’s wave Double Checkered Flags at the end of a great race.
As for me, I had just watched Justin Johnson drive a hell of a race and get his First A-Mod Feature win, but then remembered, that earlier in the year I watched him get his best finish ever in the A-Mods with a second place finish just to come to the Tech area and get disqualified for having the wrong R.P.M. chip in the car. When he got out of the car Saturday night I told him that if he had the wrong chip in tonight that I was going to kick his butt right in front of his Mom and Dad. Congratulations Justin on your win, you deserve it. Also Congratulations to all the other A-feature Winners.
As for all the other drivers all I can say is you may not have won the feature this week but with out the rest of you there is no show for the fans and there wouldn’t be any side-by-side racing for us to watch. Remember it takes more than one car to have a race. “Thank you” for what you all do each and every week.
I want to also say Thank You to all the drivers and their teams that came from other Race Tracks in the area to support HPT Saturday night that got to much rain so you were not allowed to race at your home track. Hope you all had a good time and choose to return to HPT, you are always welcome at HPT.
With the races over and the night coming to an end track owner Ray Erwin stopped by the pits and said man “What a Show”. Ray went on to say that I could quote him on this, “The Crowd tonight was awesome” and that he wanted to say “THANK YOU TO EVERYONE” that was at Heartland Park Topeka Saturday Night and a “Job Well Done” by all the Staff.
