It’s Time for the $5,000-to-Win Tom Wilson Modified Memorial BBQ Bowl at Central Missouri Speedway! By Sam Stoecklin There is only one place grass-roots race fans will need to be this weekend, and that is watching the best of the best drivers flinging the dirt at Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS), for the fifth-annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl presented by Kenny’ Tile. Promoters Earl and Susan Walls and their entire crew are busy preparing for the largest-ever race weekend held at the track in its 25-year history. This weekend, spectators will have the rare opportunity to take in two nights of race action as things get underway on Friday, July 4th with a special $1,500-to-Win Street Stock special, night one of Modified qualifying, and a complete fireworks display! On Saturday, July 5th, gates at the high-banked bullring swing open again for night two of the special with regular race action for the B-Modifieds and ULMA Late Models, and another night of Modified qualifying, which culminates with the big $5,000-to-Win feature event. Past winners of the July special include three-time winner Chad Lyle (99/00/01), Kelly Shryock (07), Jason Hughes (04/06), Dean Wille (05), Tim Karrick (03), Richard Layne (02), and Justin Boney (98). Please note, mention of driver names does NOT guarantee appearance of drivers! With the rules amendment in effect for this race, which allows for aluminum heads with 50 lbs of weight added, (25 lbs on each side of the car in front of the bell housing), its hard to say what drivers from throughout the Midwest could drive through the gates for $5,000-to-win! The Street Stock division gets things rolling on night one, Friday, July 4th, when drivers in this division will compete for the biggest payout in Street Stock history at the track. All total, a purse worth well over $6,000 is up for grabs. The winner will walk away with $1,500 for their victory and the runner-up will take home $1,000. The remaining payout is quite nice with third grabbing $700, fourth $500, fifth $400, sixth $350, seventh $300, eighth $250, ninth $200, tenth $150, eleventh $125, twelfth $100, thirteenth $90, fourteenth $80, and the rest of the 24-car starting field going home with $75-to-start. All non-transfer cars from the b-main will go home with $50. The entry fee for the Street Stock competitors is $75. Night one also features the ‘Mighty’ Modifieds in a full program of heat races, b-main(s), and the a-main scramble, which will determine the odd starting positions (inside row) for Saturday night’s big race. All total, twelve cars will advance from Friday night to the main event on Saturday. Both the Street Stock and Modified divisions will use a passing points system throughout the weekend. Street Stocks are NOT on the program on Saturday night. After all racing action is done on Friday, a complete fireworks extravaganza will cap off the night as the Browning Brothers close out the night with a light-up-the night sky display of colors and explosions. On Saturday night, everything comes to a head as the B-Modifieds and ULMA Late Models join the Modifieds on the program. The B-Mods and Late Models will compete for their regular weekly points and purse money. This weekend’s racing in the Street Stock and Modified divisions is not for track points. Saturday’s Modified program is a complete new event as once again the entrants will race in heat races, b-main(s), and another a-main scramble, in which twelve more cars will transfer to the even starting positions (outside row) of the $5,000 race. The big-money race will close out the night with 24 cars making up the starting field. The guaranteed purse, which is well over $30,000 for the modifieds, includes the following payout: 1st-$5,000 / 2nd-$3,000 / 3rd-$2,000 / 4th-$1,500 / 5th-$1,250 / 6th-$1,200 / 7th-$1,150 / 8th-$1,140 / 9th-$1,130 / 10th-$1,125 / 11th-$1,100 / 12th-$1,005 and $1,000 for the remaining 24-car starting field just to start the a-main! Non-qualifiers from the B-main(s) will take away $100 for their efforts; all other non-qualifiers will take away $50. The entry fee for the Modified competitors is $200. Action gets underway this Friday and Saturday night a half hour earlier than normal. Pit gates swing open at 4:00, grandstand admission gates open at 4:30, hot laps go off at 6:30 and racing takes to the track at 7:00.
